The Money Market Association of the Philippines (MART) joins other financial associations in the very first Junior Philippine Finance and Investment Summit on July 6, 2013 at the SMX Convention Center presented by the CFA Society Philippines. The event, which was attended by about 6,400 finance students and professors from leading universities in Manila and nearby cities, tackled various finance topics to provide students ideas on areas where they can pursue their careers in finance. The morning session of the activity was devoted to economic and market outlook given by no less than Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo – for the Philippine focus, and by IMF Representative to the Philippines, Dr. Shanakar Jay Peiris – for the regional and global perspective. The afternoon session focused on finance products together with a short forum on pursuing careers in finance. MART gave credence to the summit by doing a Fixed Income presentation courtesy of MART President Mike Calleja who shared with the students the basic features of fixed income securities and provided an overview of Philippine fixed income market. “Reaching out to students and orienting them to the fixed income market early on will widen our base and directly impact MART’s goal of increasing financial literacy” shared Mr. Calleja. Other topics of the summit included mutual fund investing, opportunities in the trust and asset management industry and investing in the equities market.
