It was a night of network gaming for MART members as twelve teams of five trooped to the b_Connected internet café in Greenbelt 4 last April 15, 2009 to play Counter-Strike, one of the most popular network games of all time. This gave the traders a much needed break from their busy schedules.
BSP’s quintet of Reymund Derrick Doctor, Junnard Lustria, Carl Vincent Melendres, Christian Paolo Romagos, and Michael Rubio bested 11 other teams to win the championship. On their way to the finals, they beat Unionbank Team B (8-5) in the first round, Chinabank/PCCI/Amstel (14-3) in the second round, and Unionbank Team A in the race-to-10 knockout round to decide who advances to the championship round.
The highlight of the night was when Team BSP rallied against Unionbank Team A in the sudden death race-to-10 decider. The central bankers were down 0-5 when they had a 6-game win streak to take the lead at 6-5. The round ended with BSP winning 10-6. They advanced to the finals where they faced Security Bank Team A.
Security Bank Team A had a much smoother road to the finals when they seemed to mow down their opponents with ease during the first two rounds. They beat the Team of Allied/Amstel 14-3 in the first round and the group of RCBC/Prebon 15-2 in the second round. This impressive record gave Security Bank Team A the best quotient and an outright berth in the finals.
In the finals, the participants were set to play 2 sets of race to 10. BSP’s teamwork proved to be the key in beating Security Bank. Their coordinated attacks and defensive strategies prevented Security Bank from gaining momentum. BSP took the first round of the finals with a score of 10-3. The second round ended with team BSP leading 4-3. At this point, the outcome was beyond doubt.
Mr. Toto Hilado (RCBC) and Ms. Malou Liwag (RCBC) of the MART Fellowship Committee handed out the medals to the winners.
