Last May 29, 2007, MART’s 1st General Membership Meeting was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Intercontinental Manila. The event saw the handing over by HSBC’s Dino Rudyardo Gasmen of the presidency to RCBC’s Sergio Edeza. The outgoing president addressed the MART members and thanked everyone for all the support and effort they have given for the continued exemplification of the organization’s goals and principles, particularly during the very eventful 2006. The event also saw the induction of AMSTEL Financial Services Philippines as a MART member. In addition, the new chairpersons for the different MART committees and sub-committees were also inducted.

But the event was highlighted by the address of the guest of honor – ADB Treasurer, Mikio Kashiwagi. In his address, Mr. Kashiwagi discussed ADB’s initiatives in the development of regional capital markets. Moreover, Mr. Kashiwagi highlighted ADB’s just concluded bond offering and its initiatives towards small and medium enterprise lending, much like the very successful Grameen Bank by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Bangladeshi doctor Muhammad Yunus.
